2008-2009 Winter Farmers’ Markets & Meals for Hope
Requirements, Guidelines and Vendor Accord
All Farm Vendors must:

  • Have in force comprehensive farm product and sales liability insurance coverage (some host congregations and denominations may require a copy of current policies) and hold harmless the host congregation, Harvest of Hope, and Churches’ Center for Land and People.
  • Carry appropriate and necessary state and/or federal product and sales licenses and permits.
  • Sell only what they grow or make from their farm crop and livestock production, or from their farm cooperative (some sales representative or volunteer sales arrangements have been granted with prior approval to accommodate unique personal, outside work or family situations, for example child care needs or milking schedule conflicts; make arrangements in advance).   Bakers and pasta makers who do not grow their own ingredients are welcome to participate (subject to all remaining provisions herein) provided they utilize as their ingredients in  production at least 25% from farm producers in states contiguous to Illinois, Iowa, or Wisconsin, and whose farms they list by name at their market table.  Such applicants must list on the back of this agreement (or on a separate sheet attached) names of farm producers whose ingredients they will use.  Preference in buying ingredients should be given to farm producers who take part in CCLP’s Winter Farmers Markets & Meals for Hope.
  • Be able to describe their sustainable agricultural practices and/or production methods in literature, photos and displays for consumers at the markets and for advance publicity and promotion of the markets.
  • Be willing to mark up prices for the day at least 10 percent and donate that percentage to the Harvest of Hope farm crisis fund, on market sales for the day totaling at least $150. Donations will be made, with checks payable to Harvest of Hope Fund, at the end of each winter market.  [In Illinois and Iowa, checks should be made payable to Churches’ Center for Land and People, with Harvest of Hope and the market date in the memo line.]
  • Be courteous, friendly and cooperative in set-up, transaction and clean-up of market space in church parish halls; and contribute in constructive ways to success of these ongoing sales, particularly in reporting information needed to obtain funding to expand and improve sales and in helping advertise the sales on list serves, in regular customer communications and in distribution of advance publicity flyers, brochures, etc.

Individual winter market sales will try to limit farm vendors by product categories to 1 or 2 for each type of product, with consideration given to types of products sold and expected turnout at each event. We do not want to hurt individual farm producers by weak sales from excessive competition, as we build attendance at these winter farmers’ markets.
Farm vendors who meet these requirements and agree to the conditions will be scheduled for Winter Farmers Markets & Meals for Hope on a first-come, first-served basis.  Firm commitment to attend sales is requested.  For consideration and approval as a farm vendor, contact Markets & Meals coordinators Tony Ends in Wisconsin; Robin Schirmer in the Chicago area, robininwinter@aol.com / 708-370-8017, with this signed farm vendor agreement and a list of sales date preferences in advance of scheduled markets. Direct questions on vendor requirements to Tony Ends, 608 897-4288 (home/farm) or tony@scotchhillfarm.com.
IMPORTANT: On an attached page (or on the reverse side of this page), indicate
